Day 3

Today you have a very simple assignment. Think of one person who has made a difference in your life. It could be someone from 40 years ago or from yesterday. The only thing is you have to know how to contact them in writing electronically (Facebook, email, etc).

Now, copy and paste this into an email or Facebook message and send it to them. If you have some energy, you can add some more stuff, but if not, just copy and paste this...

Hi, ________ (You do have to type their name, but that is it)

I was thinking about you today and just wanted you to know that I really appreciate the impact you have had on my life. When I thought about the great times we have had together, it made me smile and I just wanted you to know how much you mean to me.

Your Name Here (ok, you have to type your name too)

Easy, huh?

Now if you want to increase the amount of joy this brings, you should send this to 2 or 3 or 5 or 10 people....

but if all you have energy and time to do is send one, that's enough. You'll be glad you did.

Comments

  1. I'm really surprised at how uncomfortable this feels to me. I've been procrastinating since I first read the assignment!

  2. SO Denise, did you end up doing it?

  3. Yes, I did it. Today. :)

I noticed a couple of things. First of all, I felt vulnerable.

Second, as I went through my address book, I saw that it's full of doctors and therapists and pharmacies. There are still friends' names in there, but I haven't kept in touch with most of them. My life is so different from theirs, and I see how much I've isolated myself.

  4. Denise -- I know exactly what you mean. There was a point during our journey when I suddenly got smacked in the head (figuratively) by the reality that i had let go of a LOT of really good relationships and become all wrapped up in my kids behaviors. One of my steps out at that point was to reconnect. There will be some more challenges along this line as we move forward (don't freak out!)

  5. Okay, I won't freak out! :)

I just love these challenges (even when I don't love doing them!) because they're simple enough for me to be able to incorporate them into my daily life, but they really are effective.

I knew, on some level, that I'd let go of relationships, but it wasn't until I sat down to send this to someone that I *really* saw it.

I'll just add that I haven't received a response from either of the people I chose, which is adding to the vulnerability I felt. One more thing to work on... :)
